Mr. Weather was in an ugly mood Sunday morning. I drove to the market to demonstrate my support for the manager and the other vendors, some of whom traveled much farther than I.
The wind had already picked up to about 10 - 15 miles per hour and it didn't take me long to decide I would not set up. Some did though. They moved from the street to the sidewalks which are covered and gave it a try. I left. Sharon and I drove back through at about 10:30 only to see everybody taking their booths down in the rain. We really felt bad for them (glad for us though).
Well, I broke down and put some Christmas lights up! Yup!
It's the first time in many years. I guess I just was getting tired of Christmas not having any significance. It was actually fun (if banging your thumb while it's cold can be considered fun) and I discovered there are all sorts of new little gadgets out there. I bought a string of lights long enough to cross the front of the house. They were called "Motion" lights. Not being sure what "Motion" lights are, I asked the customer service rep who wasn't sure either.
I said "Do they move?", "Do
I have to move to make them work?" Finally, the guy from the seasonal department came over and explained that there is a selector switch that allows you to give the appearance of motion by making the lights cycle on and off in various patterns.
Naturally I had to try this one out. I now know how the Chinese are going to conquer our country; Motion Lights! It took a whopping ten seconds on each of the eight settings to turn me into a babbling idiot (no comment, Sharon) and I can't tell you how happy I was to find the setting for "On". Whew!
Once I got that string installed it became painfully obvious that you can't trim a house for Christmas with only one string of motionless "Motion" lights. Needless to say, we now have four strings of a mixture of "Motion" and LED lights. My simple moment of good will has now broken my meager budget. Scrooge wasn't all bad it seems.
